There is often a misconception that only “special” or “highly qualified” families can adopt. In fact we need to recruit perfectly ordinary families from all walks of life. At St Margaret’s we encourage applications from all sections of the community. We need to recruit families with all kinds of backgrounds, from various faiths and none, with or without children of your own, and people from different ethnic backgrounds. You can be employed or unemployed, own or rent your home. What is required is that you are flexible, committed, willing to listen and to learn and that you have the capacity to offer love and commitment to a child who is likely to be very demanding and emotionally needy.
If you are interested in adoption St Margaret’s will provide you with information and advice. If you decide to proceed with an application we will invite you to participate in a Preparation Group before progressing to a Home Study assessment. This includes Disclosure Scotland checks, medical and character reference checks, and an in depth assessment of you and your partner. Our assessment will be presented to the Adoption Panel who will scrutinise our assessment. Once approved our task is to match you with a child. We offer support and supervision before and after the adoption order is granted.
