We are absolutely thrilled to let you know that our Vice-Chair, Rita Emilia Anna, The Honourable Lady Rae KC, has been awarded the Commander of the Order of the British Empire, CBE, in King Charles’ New Year Honours List for services to the Law, to Charity and to Education in Scotland.
Lady Rae has served as Vice-Chair for a number of years and is a tremendous asset to St Margaret’s, both in terms of the work she does for us and the gravitas she brings to our Board of Trustees.
Rita, a former Rector of Glasgow University, is also the Chair of the Scottish Catholic Safeguarding Standards Agency. A former Senator of the College of Justice in Scotland, she until very recently continued to sit part-time as a Judge. She has been a pioneer of women in the judiciary and justice system in Scotland for decades.
Canon Tom White, our Chair, said: “I think the coming together of Lady Rae’s illustrious legal career, her work at such a small voluntary adoption agency like St Margaret’s along with the other charity work she does so quietly in the background speaks volumes for her commitment to social justice, child welfare and the Catholic church. St Margaret’s are immensely proud of her.”
Lady Rae said: “No one is more surprised than I am in receiving this CBE but I feel very honoured to have received this award.”
