Meet The Head of Services

I am Jacky Sheeran the Head of Service at St Margaret’s, and I am delighted to introduce myself to you.  I was approached and recruited to lead the agency in June 2022 after the resignation of the previous Director and Principal Officer, coming out of retirement to do so.

Previously I spent over 35 years in Social Work practice with Glasgow Health and Social Care Partnership, previously Strathclyde Regional Council and Glasgow City Council, working in Children & Families as a Social Worker, focusing on permanent planning for children and their families, Team Leader for both children and families and addiction teams and latterly managing the Duty Desk in Glasgow Northeast.  I have worked in many disciplines, criminal justice, addictions, children & families, and children’s houses, so I have extensive experience managing teams of social workers and paraprofessionals dealing with complex casework.

My initial tasks centred around stabilising the Society, ensuring that our approach centred on the fact that we are a faith-based service, sustaining and recruiting the right staff to move St Margaret’s forward and ensuring we were fully prepared to deliver the services that our prospective adopters, current adopters and their families need and deserve for the future.  We also recruited for our Adoption & Fostering panel, appointing a number of new members, a new Chair and new Vice-Chairs.  We now have a full team on board and are working hard to continue to develop our services for the future.

In my personal life, I am fully committed to my Catholic faith, and I understand part of the journey that our adopters go through having been assessed and approved as a foster carer for the Glasgow HSCP Host Family Service. With my husband, I now look after four young people, three of whom are currently seeking asylum from Vietnam. I am a mother and grandmother to three adult sons, three adult grandchildren and two primary school age grandchildren.  The three pugs are of course part of the family!

I feel honoured to be able to lead St Margaret’s into the future, continuing to provide the outstanding service we are noted for!
